Support the development of a Primary Care Liaison Model

This model has been designed to enhance the links between the Alcohol Service and Primary Care. Resulting in a higher quality of treatment provision to people with alcohol misuse issues. Whilst this aspect of the service primarily targets Tier 2 level of intervention it does not exclude people with tier 3 needs. Currently there are 8 surgeries working very closely with the Primary Care Liaison Team with more expansion planned.

Support and Develop Services that offer alternative forms of intervention

There are a number of different aspects to this goal, the main one of which has been the development of service user groups for people with alcohol problems. Two groups now exist, one for men and one for women which self supports and uses rooms at the Alcohol Team base to meet regularly. It is also hoped that these types of groups will be able to assist in the continuing development of the alcohol service, by providing regular input to the service regarding needs.

There are also links being developed between the Alcohol Team and other self help groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous.
