Wakefield and District Alcohol Team

What we do

We provide advice, support and treatment to adults affected by alcohol misuse and we work across the district.  We are a multi-agency service which includes Spectrum, Turning Point, Wakefield Council and NHS Wakefield District.  The team is made up of 13 staff who have a variety of skills and experience between them.

The services we offer include:

  • Advice and support
  • Harm reduction information
  • Community detoxification with specialist prescribing
  • Relapse prevention
  • Assessment for residential rehabilitation
  • Liaise with other professionals on your behalf
  • Referrals to other services
  • Complimentary therapy on a weekly basis
  • Sign posting and dual diagnosis
  • Assertive outreach
  • An independent Nurse Prescriber offering flexible and responsive prescribing support
  • Hospital liaison
  • Well-being services.

How to access the Wakefield and District Alcohol Team’s services

You can access our services by contacting the team yourself the number is listed below.  Or you can ask your GP or another professional such as a social worker, probation worker or nurse to make a referral on your behalf.  Referral can be made over the phone or by completing a referral form and returning it to the team by post or fax. 

Once the team have all the info they need they will organise an initial assessment appointment where appropriate treatment can be discussed with the service user.

The only changes to this process occur when a person is involved in either the Criminal Justice or Primary Care aspect of the scheme. You can speak to the team to find out more about this.
