Summary of the outputs

An initial scoping of the workforce strategy suggests the following

  • Drug treatment and reintegration systems and the services and individual staff within them need a range of appropriate competencies. There may be a need for new competencies to deliver the range of psychosocial interventions now being recommended for drug treatment and in addressing health inequalities amongst vulnerable groups such as offenders
  • Commissioners and employers need a vision for the workforce required to deliver the best outcomes for their treatment population. This requires an overview of the competencies required to manage and deliver systems of treatment and reintegration that meet a range of service user needs
  • Service user involvement, community development and the personalisation agenda will demand a shift in our relationships with patients and staff will need to consider how to work with service users as "assets" of the service

The WISMS Integrated Workforce Strategy is a cornerstone of the ICO project and when published will reflect the following:

  1. Implementation of the WISMS Balanced Scorecard (the performance measurement model)
  2. Transforming Community Services and the general move toward a more business focussed and customer care approach
  3. Personalisation agenda and piloting of a local model of patient choice and self directed payments
  4. Development of a suite of competency frameworks against the workforce profiles of the ICO
  5. Work with Sheffield Hallam University to implement the Health Behaviour Change competency framework with a specific focus on the mobilisation of a PSI service for WISMS NHS
